Writitng papers have never been easy and in this scenario it has been even harder. In my English 103 course that is wrapping up this week I am required to write a comprehensive 6 page paper on education. I chose to write about the budget cuts and how they are effecting education in a negative way. Throughout my research I have found out many statistics that just should not be realistic but the sad truth is that it is. I remember all my years in school, we had many programs offered to us throughout and things started getting tense financially two years ago when I was in high school. It is unfortunate the students now have to deal with all the cuts and the sad news is that the students are eventually going to be required to write a six page paper just like me, but will never have the proper knowledge of how to.
Through out my paper I have really realized how much I struggle with the organization. I have so much to say, I just do not know how to express it correctly into the essay and I loose my patients. I see that I need help in areas were I was never addressed before. This is where I question though, why it was never addressed before. I know I have been making the same mistakes but why didn’t my high school teachers catch it earlier to save me the frustration later on. This is a point in my paper as well because with the budget cuts this is going to be an issue; students will not have the dedicated teachers they deserve. I see it for myself now, in my own two shoes how important proper education is, since I am struggling with things now that should have been taken care of years before.
Due to the research paper I have be become familiar with “help”. I have asked for direction from many people. I address different people because they all see different things. It has helped me to not be scared to ask for help, and I once before was to stubborn to ask for help. I have learned all the internet sources that help you with grammar and things of that nature. I have learned to take full advantage of every resource available to me as well such as smart thinking (I love them). They taught me were the appropriate spots for commas and colons are, because I used to struggle in that area also.
Over all the research paper has been an experience in its self although it is not my first and I know I will not be my last. I am slowly learning how to take guidance and assistance. I have been taught how to punctuate correctly and when I am getting to wordy. The research paper will definitely help me in the long run with all essays, and I will just have to continue to work on the things I have yet to learn from the research project.

Hi! I really liked reading your blog. Can you believe this semester is almost over?! It’s really sad to think about how much classes are getting cut down. It’s very difficult for those students who want to get an education and are bummed down because of the budget cuts. Classes are being very limited and it’s difficult for students to get accepted in those classes, not mentioning into CSU or UC schools. Spending usually gets cut first in the fine arts which limits student expression. I also think that it’s sad that high school teachers are not taking part in students’ education. I can’t say this for all high school teachers because my teachers actually did care, however, for other students who aren’t able to write properly. I like how you mentioned Smarthinking because I also love it. The tutors helped be so much and brought points up that I could develop a little more. I thought it was such a big help! I’m glad that you were comfortable with asking people for help. I think that is such an important tool you could’ve learned from this assignment. Well, I just want to wish you luck with this class and everything else you will have to come up with in the future!
ReplyDeleteHey girl hey! I'm sooo excited that this semester is over, aren't you? it sucks that this class had to be online, instead of a regular class. But anyways, great point you made in your blog that, now and days high school student's dont have teachers that actually care for their education, I did a paper on that subject for my comm 103 class, and i agree a 100% in what you mentioned. I mean isn't that the purpose of high school to teach the student's how to prepare themselves for college? instead of it being the other way around, high school teachers shouyld be teachng student's the proper things they need to know, that way when they get to college they wouldn't have to stress so much about a paper right? well i hope that all that changes, and teachers should start caring a little bit more for childrens education. I'm pretty sure we have all been through the same situation, but with the help of all these resources that are offered to us, it indeed ha made our lives a little bit less stressful. Well hope you enjoyed this semester, because I know I sure didn't lol

ReplyDeleteMan o man it is hard to believe that this semester is already over. I mean this will be the second to last blog response we will all be responsible for. I remember the first week of this class and our first blog responses, I am pretty sure I started the semester writing or responding to your blog so I figured I end it that way too.
Well I enjoyed your blog once again, you tend to always have very great blogs. This research paper was most definitely not the easiest one and unfortunately I know that they will never get easier. I am glad to read that you were not afraid to ask for help from different people. I know I asked for help but the people I asked were just as lost as I was, so I just kind of winged it. Another thing I know I learned and did was learn that procrastination is not my friend and it would have been much easier to start sooner so that way I was not working on it the day before. At least that way I could sort of guarantee that my essay, all 6 n half pages of it or so, would have been better written and I could have probably gotten a better grade than I'm thinking I am getting. I think the best thing that everyone got to experience with this paper is that we all learned a few things about our topic. I know my topic was about women's rights and with the little bit of research I did I learned more than I wanted to know.
